Our Story
Mill Hill sits back on Madison Street in Warrenton, North Carolina, across from the big water tower. It offers spacious outdoor seating and lots of fresh air! When the weather turns cold, you can cozy on up in our taproom, or on the patio lined with heaters and comfy furniture. We want you to kick back, relax, and take in the atmosphere.
Mill Hill Brewery is a little place where good vibes flow as freely as our beers. People often ask about the history of our renovated taproom and about the neighborhood in which it is set.
Once a mill village commissary called Fisher's Grocery, the building that houses our taproom dates back pre 1940s. In the early 1960s, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher opened it up as an American hot dog and burger joint that became known as Newt's Grill . The old timers tell stories of when Mr. Fisher would sling hot dogs while smoking a cigarette... how times have changed, but the good spirit of the time is still alive and well at Mill Hill today!
In 2020, the old Newt's building was completely gutted and the interior revamped to meld a soft yet rigid-industrial classic feel. The addition of the porch added some extra sitting room, perfect for having a beer with friends. The original signage stating "We (do not) have hamburgers and hot dogs" pays homage to and preserves what Mill Hill was and what it has become. Always a hang out, but now also a watering hole and a place to create memories as well as tasty beer.
More recently, after the passing of the brewery owner in 2024, the Mill Hill Brewery and Taproom were forced to close. Brought together by a mutual aquaintance, Sneaky Penguin Brewing Company, based out of Raleigh, and the Mill Hill team worked together to get the taproom, and later brewing space back up and running. Customers can now enjoy Sneaky Penguin beers on draft as well as the charm of the former Mill Hill taproom and crew.
No strangers exist here. What a great place to be! Add Mill Hill Brewery to your list, this one is worth the visit!
